State awards $1.4 million grant to ‘accelerate growth’ of Petersburg’s new pharma cluster
“The latest round of Growth and Opportunity for Virginia [GO Virginia] grants have been awarded, and it includes just the right amount of monetary medicine for Petersburg’s growing “pharma cluster.”
Gov. Ralph Northam’s office released a list Thursday of 14 grants totaling $7.7 million aimed at spurring economic-development growth across the commonwealth. Of that amount, $1.4 million will be applied to developing the cluster of pharmaceutical companies locating at the Petersburg Industrial Park just off Wagner Road and Interstate 95 in south Petersburg.
The independent state authority Activation Capital will use that money to “accelerate growth of the emerging Pharmaceutical Manufacturing cluster” that will make it “an international leader in advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing, and research and development,” a release from the governor’s office said.”
